PRESIDENT'S WELCOME
Welcome to THE Chicago Chapter of Jack and Jill of America Inc. Thank you for your interest in our phenomenal chapter.
We are delighted to be celebrating our 75th anniversary in 2022. From inception, the Chicago Chapter has maintained a fervent commitment to service and community support. Our mothers and teens have built productive relationships with organizations like the Chicago Urban League, Humble Beginnings, IGNITE, Chicago Youth Programs and many more. Our Teen Group was awarded 1st place at the 2021 Midwest Regional Teen Leadership Conference for charitable giving.
In addition to providing engaging leadership development, legislative advocacy, cultural awareness and educational activities for our children, social activism is also a strong focus for our chapter. Post the death of George Floyd due to police brutality, the children of the Chicago Chapter were hurt, angry and needed their voices to be heard. At the behest of our children, we took the initiative to create an opportunity for our babies to do exactly that -- be heard.
On Saturday, June 13, 2020, our 7th through 12th graders lead a chapter-wide Kids' Protest with multi-chapter participation. Their mission was to expose Jack and Jill children of all ages to the act of protesting and standing up with confidence for their rights as African-American teens/children. As a result, the children learned how to create a vision and achieve that goal by mobilizing the community at large to rally behind a common cause.
Paraphernalia from the march was collected by the National Museum of African American History and Culture. For more information about the Kids' Protest, feel free to visit the website at www.kidsprotest.com.
We are incredibly proud of the ongoing efforts of our families to positively impact the community, and it is my great honor to serve as the 23rd president of the Chicago Chapter.
Yours in Jack and Jill,
Cicely Glanton
